: Vinyl top molding clips location

I'm installing a vinyl top on a 70 el camino that never had one before. I plan on using either rivets or small stainless steel screws to hold the clips to the body, but my concern is exactly where the clips should be placed.
I'm at the point where i outlined in pencil where the molding goes. By looking at the back of the molding, it has some sort of starting slots for the clips. is it really that critical where the clips are located for a tight fit?
Any input would be appreciated,a picture, even more so
thanks

I plan on doing the same to my elky,I don't think it matters to much where the clips are.Just space them out evenly along the piece of trim, should be about 5 or 6 of them I think..

Thanks for the reply Rick.
I thought there might be a trick to installing the moulding like sliding the molding up onto the two clips near the back and just putting a little pressure on the remaining ones to get them to snap into place, or are they all supposed to snap into place? also, whats your thoughts on rivets or screws to hold the clips in place. I'm hoping to do this right the first time so i dont screw up a set of moldings.

Don't know about rivets,I'll use the screws and apply alittle POR15 to the screws when applied,to keep the rust from starting under the hole...
