I heard somewhere that the LT1 converters will give about a 2800 stall. Is this correct? I`m getting ready to have my tranny guy build my 700R4 and he can get me one for about $150. My motor is a pretty mild 350 but it could use a little stall. Any info would be great.

Yep, that is correct. I had one in my 70 1/2 Z28 with a th400. The converter will have around the stall you are looking for, depends on the motor.

I was talking about the 96-up LT1. The th400 and the 700R4 use different converters. Sorry for the confusion, I should have posted a year. Thanks for the reply though.

the GM factory converter does not stall that high in a LT-1 & 700r4 setup

I've got a couple '95 caprices with LT1s, and they don't seem to have much stall... maybe 2000 or so.
What's great about them, is you can get by with about a 3200 on the street, with a lock-up converter it won't slip when you get out on the road. Aftermarket lock-up converters aren't cheap, though... I think the decent ones are around $500.

A '96 S-10 V-6 converter stalls around 2200-2300 behind a big block with a 700R4. Available from GM under $200 and no durability issues.
