I'm quite savvy at internet scouring and have yet to find a *definitive* answer to my exact applycation. I'm going from a 327/th350 to a 454/th400. The car is a '72 Chevelle. I assume any movement would be rearward but how much and can I know before I try the install? Thanks in advance.

It needs to be moved back 2-11/16. If I did my math right.

I changed my TH350 to a TH400 when I put in the new 383 and had to move the cross member back on the frame, drill 2 new holes in each side, and have a new driveshaft made shorter than the original. If you don't have mounts yet check out the POLY engine and tranny mounts... I have them and they seem to be working out just great.

With a '72 you will not have to drill any holes for the crossmember, they are there already, and yes the driveshaft will have to be shortened. I went from th350 to th400 to th350 and going back to th400 this weekend, after having the driveshaft shortened I was able to find a longer late model yoke which enabled me to use the shortened driveshaft with either transmission, just had to use one of those oddball u joints(2 different sizes) to mount the th350 yoke on the driveshaft, I'll be glad to get the bigger and solid u joints back in the car.
