: Another non chevelle question '68 GTO
Pro Charged Chevelle Jun 14th, 05, 3:49 PM i went and looked at a 68 GTO advertised locally the guy who has it is the second owner of the car. its almost complete (missing short block). it needs body work done to fix some rust around the wheel lips, around the rear window, and also one of the front fenders has a small, quarter sized hole in the bottom of it. the floors and the trunk seem solid. it has almost everything and he wants $1500. it has a/c and p/s and p/b (drums) and is a black bucket seat interior car. it still has the original console/ His and Hers shifter and the interior is complete except one door panel (wil need to be totally re done) it is missing the motor but he has one head and the original intake. it has no title anymore because it hasn't been registered since the early 80's and getting a title and registering it will cost me around $125 according to the DMV. so with all this in mind do you guys think he's asking a fair price?
thanks,
chris
72silverchevelle Jun 14th, 05, 4:20 PM yea, I think it is fair, GTO's are real cool and be great cars when they are finished. For a solid body, floor pans and i am assuming frame, 1500 sounds like pretty good deal.
Pro Charged Chevelle Jun 14th, 05, 4:41 PM the floors looked ok from the bottom and i stomped on them a little, but the carpet is wet from water leaking in it so im not sure if the floors are 100% solid, im thinking if i pull the carpet up im going to find a scaley rust mess, but that all depends on how long its been getting wet.
Pro Charged Chevelle Jun 15th, 05, 9:14 PM anyone else have any input, he still has it so i think im gonna wait a little bit and keep an eye on it then offer him a grand.
LeoP Jun 15th, 05, 11:26 PM You can get verification of the GTO status from PHS, they have the info on all Pontiacs.
Pro Charged Chevelle Jun 16th, 05, 1:13 AM thanks for the info Leo, i plan to get a PHS report if i buy the car, but on GTOs they are easy to decode if they are 64-71s. a 64-71 GTO has to have a VIN starting with 242. wouldn't it be nice if it were that easy for Chevelle Super Sports?
Pro Charged Chevelle Jun 22nd, 05, 11:33 PM well, i got a call from the guy selling the GTO and he had a big bill come up so he said $800 and come get it. so today im now the proud owner of a '68 GTO!

Cam Jun 23rd, 05, 12:15 AM Score!
 congrats
Pro Charged Chevelle Jun 24th, 05, 11:38 AM it's gonna need a little more work than i thought when i first looked at it, but for 800 i can't complain. i'll try to get some pics loaded up once i figure out how to use my camera better.
