Does anyone make a decent TH400 dipstick tube and stick that doesn't leak or is a PITA to install? Is there any tricks to getting one in without any problems? Seems like any one that I have installed before, there was a problem with the o-ring seal and it always seems to leak! Thanks.....

The OEM TH400 tube and dipstick are still available from your local GM parts counter.

Reasonably priced, leak free, and fit great!

Bill would you happen to have a part number or do you just ask for a TH400 tube and dipstick?

Hey ObseSSed, did you have any luck finding a Trans Dipstick Tube?
I need one for a 1970 SS 454/T-400, and NONE of the aftermarket or repro ones I've bought have fit. It needs to have sharp bends to clear the firewall. My local Chevy dealer can only look up stuff from 1983 or later, I am losing hope. No good old stuff in junkyards, and nothing I've tried will fit. Wishing I had a GM Part Number... Any help will be greatly appreciated! -Dan.

How about using a 1/2" TM conduit bender on it?

Any one know if or where these are still available? Our GM dealer cannot get either at the moment.

If any one has one of each and wants to part with it we are interested .

I install 2 O-rings on the tube - 1 at the bottom end and 1 half way up to the ridge - spray the trans hole out good with brake cleaner, daub a little silicone over the entire tube end and stab it in and snug it down, That is as close to no leaks as you can get. My trans came out of a 1/2 ton P/U and all I had at the time was the longer original tube - was going to change it later, but I kinda like it up there where I can get to it now.
