Well i have been having some troubels the last couple of days getting this tranny to shift into first. I really gotta yank on the shifter when i am @ a stand still. If i am slowing down it will suck it right into first at the right rpm. Also reverse seems to grind about 25% of the time, the clutch is in but it really doesn't seem to matter. I have tried to rev it a bit because i heard it is a RPM thing but i can't seem to get it right.

Thanks!!!

This is a M22W 73 Muncie Transmission, with a centerforce dual friction clutch and a hurst comp + Shifter.

THANKS!!

Sounds as if the clutch is not fully disengaged. Could be the pressure plate starting to warp, clutch arm bending or sloppy linkage.

Well everything is about 4 months old, i would hope the pressure plate wouldn't be warping, the clutch arm is the pedal or what? I will definitely check out the linkage though have had problems with that so far.

I and a couple of other people on here had the same problem you've got a bad pressure plate. Seams that after about 1200 miles the fingers on the PP warp and the PP doesn't fully disengage when you have the pedal all the way to the floor. Does the trans engage alright when the motor is cold and gets worse when its hot? I pulled my motor to rebuild and checked all the measurements on my linkage thinking that was it and put the engine and trans assembly back in and the same problem was there. Do a search and you'll find a couple of posts about the dual friction having the same problem. Some people had good luck with them but there is the thought that the weights mess up the springs on the PP. Some people have sent the PP back and got new ones with no explanation as to what was wrong but I dediced to go with a different brand this time arround.

Sound definately like the linkage is loosening up or coiming unadjusted. Check that out. I had the same problem.

No it has nothing to do if it is cold or hot. If i am sitting still i can't get it into 1st. but if i am moving it slides right in. If i am slowing down i will put it in first and it will suck it right in no problems. If i have it in first, come to a stop, then put it in neutral and all of the other gears, it will go right back into first no problem but if i pull up to al ight in neutral then try to put it in 1st it is a pain. I will definitly check my linkage though, i had my adjustment rod come off the other day and it all started when it was starting to fall out so i am not sure if that has somethign to do with it.

It sounds like your 1st gear synchronizer might be locking on the 1st gear cone at a stand still. The synchronizer and the gear synchronizer teeth must line up for the slider to smoothly shift into gear at a stand still.

Your transmission is fresh and new, give it some time to loosen up. If this is the problem, she will be shifting into 1st with no problem after some more miles.

Your reverse gear crunch might be bellhousing alignment? Did you check this?

A guy helped me install the transmission and i know hw aligned the bellhousing, i am in the process of talkign with him also and telling himw hat people are telling me here. IT seems that it is the clutch adjustment rod again, because if i push that thing as far to the floor as i can it shifts easy, so i gotta play with that again, checked all the shifter linkage and no problems there. Reverse i am lost on, sometimes it is perfect sometimes it is not.
