I was lifting the engine out of my '68 and noticed that there was an unusual amout of movement at the frame that goes under the drivers side (under the master cylinder) Is this normal to see ANY movement out of the frame here? Is this a problem area for Chevelles? Should I lay off the Beers?

unless you can visually see cracks, these A bodies are notorious for the front clip sagging big time, especially if you have the jack stands on the frame behind the front wheel. I've seen as much as 2-3 inches with a motor in the car. Clean the frame and start lookin, but chances are it's not cracked.

I have seen cars with rotted or cracked body bushings have a problem like what you are describing. Movement takes the path of least resistance. You might want to check the body bushings right under-neath where the parking brake cable comes out. It might be rotted. If it's not pay close attention to the inside of the frame where the body bolts to the frame. This is a spot where alot of water can settle with bad weather-stripping. Did you notice any movement when you drove the car, especially if you power-braked it?

Why don't I stop by and take a look at it. As we only live 6 or 7 miles from each other, it shouldn't be too big a problem for me. Am also looking forward to our Mar. 15th Northstar Chevelle Club meeting.
Let me Know what would work for you.

I had to replace the original frame on my '67 Elky. The boxed frame rusted thru at the body mount bushing section just below the firewall. Looks like the water from the windshield/cowl area drains down thru here and gets plugged up with leaves, etc...

Stop crying, just tow it to Karls' shop and we do a tech session on it. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
