Right now I have a regular Malibu style hood on my 72 Chevelle, and am interested in purchasing either a big block style or hinge type fiberglass 3" cowl hood. I'd rather go for the glass 3", but I'm hearing a lot of bad things about them. Such as they chip on the front on 70-72's, they always move out of alignment, and aren't good for normal street use.
Could someone give me some feedback?
Thanks,

mike,id go with a steel hood. my dad has a 78 elcamino and i bought him a cowl hood from choo choo customs.i did some shopping around and wanted the best hood avalible.it was 400.00 and although it is a very nice glass hood,it just doesnt fit exactly right.one side is alittle higher.now goodmark makes a steel hood for your car and even for my pops elky.with your car you can get the cowl induction, which requires lots of extra pieces,$$$$,or the domed hood.my 72 ss i had yrs ago was originally a small block and it had the domed hood.thats what i would get if i were you. i dont know how any of the aftermarket hoods fit for your car but im sure someone else here does. good luck. rob

Glass hoods can be a PITA. But they can knock off some serious weight where you need it most. I love the cowl hoods, they give the car some serious attitude, and to me their worth the time and effort to get them on and fit right. The two best manufactures I've dealt with are Harwood and Glasstek. You'll have half the battle won with their hoods. One suggestion if you do get a glass hood is to lay it out in the yard and let the sun do its thing on it for about a week. You'll notice it pull, buckle and stretch as the sun heats it up. Better to do it then than after its painted. Then you can do the body work and get it right. Hope this helps.
