Hope this is not a lame question, but:

Having my 67 Chevelle painted in original color, Capri Cream. My question is does a good paint job call for the entire body removing all paint and sanding down to the
metal, or using some of the previous paint (if sanded) for adhesion.

Note: This is a $1200 paint job, not a $10000
paint job.

Comments ?

Thanks,

You do not need to strip to bare metal. My worry would be, what is under the old paint??? For $1200.00 you won't get it stripped and painted.

Dales right...

You don't need to go to bare metal if the underlying paint has good adhesion...

I have seen alot of guys that will sand down to the factory paint, and only through that if its laquer checked, peeling or other damage... then etch prime and seal those bare spots... etc...
