A friend has a 10 bolt in a 1970 Gran Sport and a twelve bolt that was in a 71 Gran Sport but he thinks it is actually a chevelle rear. We are going to build both and put one back in the 70 Gran Sport and the other in my 66 Chevelle. Would'nt either work for either car?

The rear should fit, it is wider than the 66 rear by a couple inches. The later rears use a different spring pad on the rear and that won't present a problem.
The Olds rear is the only odd ball rear in these GM line up and the truck 12 bolt.

The '65 to '67 Chevelle rear end is 60 inches wide over all. The '68 to '72 Chevelle rear end is 61 inches wide over all. Using the '70 or '71 rear end is only going to move the tires out 1/2 inch on each side. The spring perch is different from '67 up, but you shouldn't have a problem with it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I found out today though that the 10 bolt is an 8.2 and not an 8.5 so we are thinking of not trying to build it as both cars are going to be street/strip cars.

If you are looking for a complete rear end for street/strip check out Currie. I couldn't be happier with the rear end they built for my 65.
