are the rear wheel openings of a 66 malibu wagon the same as a 66 2 door? If so, are patch panels available for the opening? Where is a good source, as I also need to rework the front fenders (next to the rocker panels)

Nope, the rear wheel wells are not the same on a Chevelle, but they are with the El Camino. Now, the front fender patch panel you are talking about will work with either Chevelle or El Camino. The El Camino store elcaminostore.com in Ca. should be able to help you with any panels that you may need for that wagon. Hope this helps.
