: Hardcore Muncie dealer expands product line!
Wally Jun 10th, 05, 8:34 AM I know this will be a shock to some of you but I've decided to start selling the Tremec transmissions and kits made by www.classicchevy5speed.com.
I believe Scott and Jeff have done their homework, thought through what they want to do and provided a kit that is high quality and very complete. The difference is their commitment to customer service, they stand behind what they sell!
Their strategic alignment with McLeod has been a win win senerio, super high quality driveline components and a shifter that Tremec said they would make and never did.
The delay of the Muncie 5 speed is bad news for a lot of people that want to cruise their cars and it will be a decision they need to make, wait or go with a different trans. I don't see the Muncie trans anytime in the near future.
So guys their it is. Old dog learns new trick!!!
Rich-L79 Jun 10th, 05, 1:01 PM We expect a complete review once you get to lay your hands on a Tremec. Guess what my next big purchase will be and guess who will get the business? I just hope I can make it work with my '65 console.

CDN SS Jun 10th, 05, 2:04 PM Wally .good for you , early on I was bugging you for the Muncie 5spd but could see that Autogear may have problems selling the volume they need at the price they need once the Tremec hit the market under 1700.00 ..... I did buy the Tremec and Mcleod Shifter from Jeff and yes his customer service is excellent..... Autogear has some great products for the Muncie and maybe someday the 5spd will be a reality but for now the Tremec works for me.

No problem with the console, kit has the shifter that will do the trick.
wes migletz Jun 10th, 05, 5:21 PM Wally, a little off topic, but is there any reason a Tremec couldn't live in a 3/4 ton truck? I recently picked-up a 1972 3/4 ton. I love the truck, but hate the trans gearing. My second gear (which I use as a first) is around 3.33, and is too steep for my 4.11 rear, resulting in too frequent shifts in traffic, where I spend 3 hours/day Mon- Fri. I'm interested in a TKO600 road race trans, with a 2.87 first and a .64 O/D. The truck is a daily driver that will eventually see some towing, and possibly even a trip or two down the 1/4 mile. TIA Wes

No reason that I know of. You won't even need a special shifter, just a long handle. I don't think there will be any floor problems, truck floors tend to be a little higher than cars.
You may be breaking new ground on this one but it will be very nice if you do the deal.
Give me a shout and we can talk price.
wes migletz Jun 10th, 05, 8:25 PM Wally, thanks for the reply, and will contact you when I'm ready for the swap, hopefully by early-mid July. Wes
JIM Jun 10th, 05, 10:10 PM Well how about that!
Welcome to the "other dark side" Wally. :D

Yep, I thought a 4 speed was as far into the dark side as I needed to be. But now I'm deep in the unknown!!!
It just about took a building to fall on me but I think this is going to work out and there are even more goodies in the pipe line, so stay tuned.
Who knows, I might make the move before I finish the 67. No console makes it a no brainer.
Then I cn slip the 4.10 back in. More gear less wheel spin.

I'm not concerned about the shifter handle but I am concerned about how the console will mount to the floor since much of the floor it would be attached to won't be there any more. The 64-65 console fits much more snug to the floor pan shape than the 66-67 versions.
Hurst - Jeff Jun 11th, 05, 3:02 AM We are very excited to be associated with Wally - what a class act and a straight shooter.
Although I am not Darth Vader, welcome to the dark side anyway!

Yep I see your point. But, with a little creative work on you part, the part of the tunnel that is cut still maintains the correct contour for mounting the console. It won't be easy but I think it could be grafted on to new metal and put back in place. I might be full of sheep dip on this but it sounds like a workable solution.
I have my eyes wide open on this. I think the market is there for guy like me and cars like mine that are so far from stock. I think anyone with a numbers car or a rare car that is under restoration should stick with the trans that came in the car.
Having said that, cars like mine and many others out there that are highly modified with big power can benefit from a swap like this. Yep it's a lot of work and it will require modifications to the tunnel and drive shaft.
But think about this, just how much of a challenge is it to those of use who build our own motors, do all our suspension work, wire the cars and on and on.
For most of use this will be a small nuisance to figure out the tunnel mods. Classic Chevy 5-Speed has done much of the work for you, providing and template for cutting the floor and a complete kit right down to hard to find hardware.
Anyone who lives in my area will get me to help them if they get stuck and I'm going to do a few installs in my shop. I think I need to hit the weight room to bulk up!!!!
