: Painting with Vinyl Top

I am getting ready to have my quarter panels painted because where the vinyl top meets the paint, the paint has bubbled up and burst(water got in). THe guy at the shop said that they would have to replace the whole top to fix the bubbles. Does this make sense. This made me think that maybe I should ace the vinyl top all together and have them paint the top(which I think would look nicer anyway). What do you guys think?

I used to do a LOT of these rust repairs and there is a few questions.

Is the rust UP under the top very far?
Or is it limited to the clip studs (which is were it starts 99 out of 100 times)?

Is the rear window being done at the same time? I can guarantee you that if your top is rusted the window channel (pinch weld) is too.

I used to heat the top and pull it up then paint and re-glue the top back down. Most guys won't want to do this for what ever reason, but it is VERY possible.

To strip the top and paint may be a way to go, but you can also be opening a can of worms. The top has to be striped of glue, paint, rust, and it is expensive. The windshield and back glass may need to be pulled anyway because sometimes the top is nailed in http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif. The holes for the rear top moulding will have to be welded up, you get the picture.
