I picked up my new 65 chevelle today. I noticed that if I was cruising and gve it a little gas, the rearof the car wanted to torque to the left. Could it be bad bushings or could I have a more seriouse problem? I drove it once before and didn`t notice the problem before. any ideas? Thanks

got posi?
check your tire pressure.
a low tire can cause this.

It`s a one legger. The pass rear tire looked low before I left but we aired them up but the guy did`nt have a tire gauge so I don`t know what the pressure is. The shifting was at 70mph so I don`t think it was tire spin. I forgot to put that in my first post. I`m going to look into it this weekend. thanks.

Has the rearend been out recently? And if so, where the control arm bolts all torqued?
I once had a similar problem. I replaced the stock control arm bolts with Aircraft stuff (with the nylon locknuts), so I just tightened until snug... It felt loose until I retorqued to stock specs (I think around 80 ft-lbs)...

I don`t know if the rear has been out or not but I told the guy about it and he said he put it on a lift and nothing was broke. I did check the tire pressure and the driver rear tire was at 25 psi and the pass was at 40psi. i matched everything up and it rides a little better.

I had the same sensation from my big block car after romping on it continuously. Turns out that i had elongated the hole in the upper rear control arm which must have allowed the rear to pivot slightly. I replaced the control arm and the sensation went away. After romping on it for a few more months, years (???) the same thing happened again, felt like car was pivoting when I gave it gas. Checked the upper control arm and sure enough the hole was elongated. Replaced again and this time I added those special frame connecters that the big block and 4 speed cars came with, not sure of technical name. This must have solved the elongation problem as i haven't had it happen again.

I`m thinkig I have the same problem. I need to get it up on a lift so I can check it out better. I did see some evidence o the frame cracking and being welded back up on the bottom near a hole. If the frame turns out to be cracked I`ll probably end up back halfing it. I`m hopeing it`s just some worn bushings or something easy so I can keep driving it. Anyway, thanks for the reply and I`ll keep you posted.
