How much did you reduce it? Not sure how PPG should be reduced, but the Sherwin-Williams is 50/50.
S-W will go on thin with the first coat, but not clear looking. Two coats is usually enough, depending on, how heavy you apply it..

The PPG acid etch would look like you discribed
If this is what you used be sure to use something like DP 40 EPOXY over the acid etch. If you don't, your body filler may react with the acid etch. Check with your local paint store.
Good luck

Well hate to tell but you need to sand down some of that primer, you APPLIED it too thick. Dx1791 is a transparent greenish primer. It goes on darn near clear.
If you can see this product applied you applied TOO MUCH product and it NEEDS to removed. If applied too thick it can cause adhesion problems.
DX1791 mixes 1:1 so you mix 1 part of dx1791 to the reducer Dx1792.
PPG recommends 1-2 coats depending on the process, so 4 coats is way to thick. They only want about 1.2 mils, were you probably have around 4-5 mils with 4 coats and you can see this product.
Sand it down with 180 grit and reapply 1 LIGHT coat of dx1791, as it needs to be scuffed and reapplied after letting it sit for over 24 hrs. After 24 hrs it needs to be scuffed and reshoot.
If you had the read the tech sheets on this product before hand it would have told you what you wanted to know before spraying...Eric
If you have the DPX170 or DPX171 it too will be a transparent primer but with more body to it. It also should be sanded down because 4 coats is too thick.
Also it CAN NOT be topcoated with epoxy.

No need to completely sand it off. You just need to remove some of the film build. The recommended film build of that product is .4mils The clear plastic wraper they put on cigeraites is 1mil thick, so we are talking some very thin film builds.
Sand with 180 grit. PPG recommendeds with this product of sanding and reappling if allowed to sit after 24hrs. So you will need to reapply 1 light coat of etch before you apply any other product

Hey sevt - know anything about DuPont's Nason etching primer? I've been told that it too only needs to be "fogged" on. In other words - you should be able to see the metal thru the paint - is this true? I've already sprayed the doors, trunk lid, front and rear valances, and front fender wells covering them completely only to find out that it only needed to be a really light coat of paint. Afterward is when you "lay on" the surface primer. Question - how long can you wait after applying etching primer to put the surface primer on?
