I've read the information at http://www.performancecoatings.dupont.com until I'm just about crosseyed. I think I know what I'm doing now, but thought I should get y'all to double check me.

I'm using Variprime etch primer (psheet at http://www.performancecoatings.dupont.com/dpc/prodinfo/chromasystem/H-19303_615S.pdf if you care to look) and it says for flash times that flash between coats is "Flash until dull, normally 5 minutes" and drying time before priming is 30-45 minutes, max allowable dry time is 24 hours.

On top of the etch, I'm planning on using the 2510S Epoxy (info at http://www.performancecoatings.dupont.com/dpc/prodinfo/chromasystem/H-19356_25X0S.pdf again if you care). The instructions on this do not go into as much detail on drying times, the only information is for air dry, nib sanding can be done at 30-60 minutes, and topcoating in 20-30 for one coat and 40-60 for two.

What I'm planning, and the part I'd like y'all to check me on, is spray the Variprime, 2 coats, 5-10 minutes between. Sounds like if I spray the epoxy anywhere between 30 minutes and 24 hours later it should be fine, but if I wait longer than 24 I need to scuff the Variprime first.

With the 2510S epoxy, it says only one coat so I guess drying time between isn't an issue.. Once it dries (I would guess somewhere between 4 and 24 hours? Not specified in the doc that I saw) if I'm planning on leaving it in epoxy for a while, I should just expect to scuff before I put anything over it... sound about right? Lacquer thinner sure was easier to understand http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Also, at what point in here should I use seam sealer? During the conversation I had with the counter-guy at the shop that sold me the seam sealer, he changed his mind on before/after primer three times in one sentence, so I don't know that I trust his final word there.

Thanks, y'all.

You have it fine. On the seam sealer, some say bare metal or primer others say primer only. So, if you were to put it over the epoxy you would be safe.

The only thing I can say is on the variprime don't so much watch the clock. You want it to flash well (that goes for all products) and that time may not be enough because of poor air movement, poor solvent temp choice and so on. So just give it a little more time to flash, it won't hurt a thing, it will only help. It should have no shiney spots in it before the next coat.
