I will be having my car painted in about a month and would like some suggestions from everyone about nice colors to chose from.

My car is a 72 convertable ss (clone) original butternut yellow with black interior and top. I was thinking about going with a real bright pull me over red, and If I chose metallics then it would be silver or blue.

Anyone know of a BRIGHT red or some other suggestions as paint color? I know its up to me but i would really like some suggestions of other colors for black ss strips ad convrt top.

thanks

Toyota has some really hot reds. I painted a monte carlo ss with toyota red. Go to my site and check it out. The second picture does it justice.www.angelfire.com/ky2/mycars

Flame Red is a very bright red. I believe it's a mid 70's or 80's Corvette color. It looks great on my SS.

LOL, good guess on the butternut yellow. Thats what it was originally but I prefer a different color.

No nice blue chevelles or color sugestions out there?

A good friend is doing a 71 hardtop in orange with black ss stripes.

i just painted mine 2001 VW Reflex Silver, which is similar or the same as 2001 Porsche Silver...i did black stripes and think it looks really great with the black vinyl roof...the silver is a nice bright metalic and looks sharp, yet low key...that's why i chose it...i'll be posting pics soon...

I just painted my '64 Elky a bright silver metalic..... (somewhat like the 2000 Monte Carlo SS). Great color. Looks good with black interior and tires.

If you like red check on DodgeViper red, painted my 68 Malibu that color and it is a real head turner , what an improvement over Tripoli torquoise, the original color. This is
a very brightred without the orange look.

As if you're not confused enough.... http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Perhaps the brightest red I've seen is the new Toyota red, it's called "Absolutely Red".

I share your dilemma, my '67 SS is just about reddy for painting.....oops I guess that was a Freudian slip, huh? Absolutely! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The Elky on the front of the NPD catalogue looks mighty good if you like blue at all. I called the shop in Florida that painted it and he said it was "Blue Pearl Metallic" from a '98 GEO.

Anyway, hope this helps, good luck.......I'm sure it'll look good whatever color you choose.

Ok, heres a blue for ya. I think it's 94 bahama blue. It's either ford or GM. I painted my wifes thunderbird with it and it's a awesome color. Would look killer with the black stripes. This blue is just a bit darker than marina blue, but has tons of blue pearl in it.

I painted my car Medium Quasar Blue Metallic (I thinks thats the name). Its a bright blue from early to mid 90's GMs (Lumina, GMC Pickups, etc.). Very similar to Marina Blue (Fathom Blue?), but a little brighter...

Ford makes some good metallic blues.. they are deep, but light. Dodge also has some nice ones too. My car looks awesome with a metallic 94 ford marina blue and a black top

Steven,

Here is a blue. In December I painted my 72 El Camino Medium Gulf Blue Metallic, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix color.

Dave B got a pic of your chevelle? Mine being a convert it would look alot like yours if I painted it that color.

Nice elcamino also, good looking blue, would it be to dark for black stripes?

This to me is the hardest choice I have had to make so far on my car!!!!

In my opinion, there are way too many red chevelles out there. Why does every one like red so much? yuck.

I think it decreases resale value, and I wouldn't buy a red car.

I'm thinking of doing my '68 with what's called Richard Petty Blue. I know, it's a Mopar color, but it rocks! It's kinda a medium blue but very bright. You can check it out in the Sept. 1999 issue of CarCraft. They have a '68 Valiant painted with R.P. blue. Very cool!

I agonized for six months about which red to use. The factory cranberry red just didn't raise my pulse enough and I wanted a "grab my ass and scream" red. I also didn't want it to dark or with any orange tint in it. I looked at hundreds of custom colors and stock colors and kept coming back to Porsche Guards Red. One day my brother finally says, "theres a reason Porsch has used the same red for so many years, they got it right!" At that moment I decided and have not regretted it for one second. It makes for a high profile car but I personally love it!
