Looking for suggestions.

Just bought this car. Previous owner installed new floor pans and here is how he did it. Cut out bad spots only of old pans, had knucklehead neighbor give advice, so he painted remainder of old pans with roofing tar, then laid new pans on top and Pop,Pop,Pop rivet we go.

Now pans are solid and am wondering what to do. Gut says cut'em out and weld new pans in. Practicality says peen over rivets, seal seams and por 15 top and bottom. Would probably last 100 years.

Best alternatve might be to remove new pans, remove roofing tar and weld in patch panels as necessary. But how the hell do you remove roofing tar??

What do you guys think??

gees, sounds ugly...but it depends on what you want to do with the car. If the car doesnt come out in the rain, yeah maybe it would last..otherwise all those lapped pieces of metal are just gonna hold moisture and rot out. I would drill out the rivets and pull up the new pans to see what is there and go from there. You can use a small hand held propane torch to heat the tar while scraping it off with a putty knife..not fun, but hey restos are work!
