i asked you bright gentlmen about a film on the grill of my 66 caprice. well i used some degreasers (didn't work) and several other ideas. i don't know what this stuff was, but was finally able to get it off, with "dawn power releaser" and 000 steelwool. took about 3 hrs. polished up great. waxed it real good. hope to heck this stuff doesn't come back. nobody was able to identify what ever this stuff was, but underneith, the grill looks new.
