Rather than weld in patch panels and massage with bondo, I have decided to replace the front fenders on my 68 el Camino.
Since the fenders are still available from the dealer, would these be the best bet? I can get them here locally for about $389 each.
I have also seen them from Goodmark (I think) for about a hundred bucks less. Are these direct replacements or do they require some massaging to install?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tim
I read your post, and the phrase, "all blonds must be really blonds", comes to mind. I think both statements are way off.
In my limited experience, any fender still around, and baring that I could never afford a 30 year old NOS fender for my Chevelle, was probably not 1st or 2nd quality or it would have sold by now.
A local resto shop guy, who worked on my fenders, would rather patch a GM fender than do anything else. If he could get another used fender in better shape locally then that's almost as good.
I reckon a repop, like one from Goodmark comes in third. I have a 70 SS hood from Goodmark in primer myself.
Massaging a fender for a few hours would probably eat up the difference real quick.
Me, I'd try to find a better used one, and use a GM fender if you can't do that. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

389 bucks for a Gm fender, wish I could find that deal for a 70. 389 is pretty cheap by the time you buy the patch panels and weld them in and finish off.
No not all replacements are made equal. I have a pair of goodmarks on my 70. They fit great better then the OEM fenders that I removed. They required no reworking or bondo to make straight or get the lines to match. They fit great. Two other members on there have the new goodmarks, 70isfine and 70chevelle, both liked the goodmarks.
Ive also had the not so pleasure of working with the fenders made by sherman. Not even close to fitting, looked rough, real light metal unlike the goodmarks.
But I think any one would gladly spend the 100 more and get GM parts I now I would...Eric
