I have a 65 chevelle with a small (2.5 inch diameter) hole in the trunk. It is on the base of a sloping part, so it is not directly flat. Without welding, I was wondering what you guys thought would be the best patch. I was thinking about using the reinforced cloth that POR-15 offers along with POR-15 silver to coat on top. Does this sound like a good solution? What do you guys think????
any help is very appreciated
Thanks

Thats a pretty big hole.. No chance of patching it with Metal??? If you don't want to weld you could always try that "Epoxy Body Putty" everyone is talking about!

I've heard good things about the POR-15 patch kits. But I wonder how much better they can be than a simple patch of fiberglass cloth and gel resin.
If you're not concerned about "show quality", then either the POR-15 or a good fiberglass kit should do the trick. The fiberglass kits are [i]much[i/] cheaper.

I'm sold on Por-15 I have been using the stuff for 3-4yrs now on 4 restos and if you can't weld a piece in the patch kit will work
I don't think the putty will work as the holes might be a little big, I did use the putty to fill some small wire & assc holes that had been drilled in the firewall and it worked great, the putty is just excelent if it has some backing.

Now think about it guys...the car came with holes in the trunk floor bigger than that! There are two of them as I remember that are about 1.25 by 3.0 inch. There were filled with a piece of metal "gluded" in. So with this I'd say that if you were to clean the metal and "glue" in a peice of metal that was about 1 inch larger (.50 inch all the way around) it would be just as GM would have done in '65. Don't use fiberglass, GM didn't for a reason, it expands and contracts at different rates than the metal.
Using a panel adheasive like 3M makes to install quarter panels would be the ticket.

Just my 2@ but I've patched some good size holes in trunk and floor pans using POR15 and have no complaints if this is what you decide to use.
