: single stage urethane
m22chevy Mar 19th, 01, 7:24 AM My car will be repainted very soon. I'm going with a solid white which is the original color. Many people have told me to go with single stage urethane instead of base/clear coat. Are there any advantages or disadvantages going with single stage. Going to try shooting it on myself. Is one a better choice for a first time paint job??
Thanks, Mike M22
Jimmy P Mar 19th, 01, 8:22 AM Yes, definately go with the single stage. It will not only cost less money, Easier to apply and it will be easier to wet sand & buff. Looks just as good as clear coat and will be easier to repair if needed. Just go with a quality maunfacturer. Straight white, not pearl, right?

Jimmy P,
I'm in the same situation (except I won't be painting myself). Is the Martin Senour "Ureglo" a good choice?
micky69396 Mar 19th, 01, 9:55 AM Single stage is great for the solid colors. I like PPG Concept.

Jimmy P Mar 19th, 01, 10:08 AM Even though I've used the Martin Senour paints with sucsess, I'll agree with Mickey. The PPG Concept line is exceptional. Tha's what my black car is painted with. It's sands & buffs better. Looks deeper too.

micky69396 Mar 19th, 01, 8:26 PM Yes it is great stuff and I would almost be sure you can get this in the red you want. We painted the black COPO on my site this way and it is fantastic.

DaDon Mar 20th, 01, 11:20 AM Painted my old Camino with Centauri single-stage white. Turned out nice and never buffed or sanded it. Hard as nails too! I was told it's the next best thing to Imron.

70ss396_kid Mar 20th, 01, 9:22 PM Not only is single stage easier to rework (buff, spot, etc.) It also has better fill qualities than bc/cc, so you won't be as affected by fisheyes, scratches, and the like. And besides, the car came with single stage! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Soybean Mar 22nd, 01, 1:26 PM I thought M-S phased out ure-glo a while
back and had only tec-glo and tec-one
now? Tec-glo is a good product, but if
its a metallic color I would go with a
two stage product.
Soybean,
I found the "Ureglo" on the M-S website and went by my local NAPA store. They had it. (might be left-over, though.)

jchevelleman Mar 22nd, 01, 4:51 PM As far as regal red goes, what I done on my car was use top quality urethane primers and shot the car with acrylic enamel and after about 16 hrs. dry time shot 5 coats of urethane clear over it and wet sanded and buffed it after 5 yrs. of drag racing and sitting out in the weather some it still looks good as the day it was painted, as an owner of a body shop I can tell you its not whats on top but whats underneath that matters the most,,, stay away from lacqer primer and you will be ok.
