How do I get a reasonable idea of the value from people here without the moderators thinking its an ad???

No accurate way without putting eyeball on the car. Many appraisers are listed in Hemmings. Or there may be someone located near you that's up to date on muscle car value. Stay clear of dealers though.

This is pretty simple if you are trading with someone you know:
Look around on the different auction boards and car trader type magazines to see sale and listing prices of cars that are similar to what you both have. Be fair with each other how each car compares with what the marketplace is offering. Then make your deal.

Well keep this in mind when thinking of a trade. Your gonna have to but up a hand full of cash if your trading your 66, fooooor say a 68...

I have a big distrust of "appraisers"... I am sure there are many great ones out there, but the last few I ran across were complete idiots...

Example: My buddy bought a 66 SS "clone", and I told him it was a clone. He wanted an appraisal to see the value, and the appraiser said it was a real SS, because the appraiser's source book noted both 136 and 138 as SS vins... When my buddy said is was a clone, the appraiser still said it made no difference, because it now had the BB and SS emblems and his book said it was the same value...

I guess I'll just take Mike's estimate... :D


My dreams of a trade fell through anyway, and the wife doesn't want me to do it either, which is odd, because she doesn't really care for the car... She just feels if I get another project (when mine is decent and driveable) that I will be upset because no car to drive... Although with the two babies, I don't get a chance to take it out much anyway...
