It's official! I start June 20th at Verizon as a CZT 2 (Customer Zone Tech). I'll be working on the copper side to start off. From aircraft mechanic at Delta to phone lineman, what a journey it's been!

Randy, is this the good job that you wanted and posted about earlier? If so I'm glad you got what you were looking for. If not, congratulations anyway, and good luck with your new opportunity.

Thanks to all for the words of encouragement!

Yes, Kevin, this was the job I posted about a few weeks ago. I had since spoken with several former co-workers from Delta who were hired by Verizon and they all said that was pretty much standard operating procedure there. They all went through the same thing.

I've been in the transportation maintenance business in one capacity or another since, well, since I was in high school. I started out working at a service station in 1974. I've been a truck mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, worked at car dealerships in the service department and of course, spent over a decade working as an aircraft mechanic (worked at Delta from 1991 till last December). Frankly, it was time for a change. I'm looking forward to new challenges and doing something different. Most of the former Delta guys I've talked to love working for Verizon. A few have left to pursue other opportunities or because they didn't like the phone business, but the majority of them have no regrets about leaving the airline business. I believe this will be a good move.

Thanks again guys (and gals), for the encouraging words!
