Hi everybody! I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but my wife and I dated in a white 1970 Malibu Convertible, red interior, bench seat, automatic, 350, air PS,PB. THIS CAR IS IN TEXAS (I think!). VIN is 136670B186651, I sold it 20 years ago in Alabama. Our 20th anniversary is coming up, and I would like fo find the car again. Please contact mike@waycoolsw.com if you know the car. Not concerned about present condition.
Thanks for any help!

Have you tried contacting the Texas DMV? If you have the VIN they might be able to help. Might also try some surrounding states.

Mike,

Got any cop buddies? They can run the VIN nationwide...my bro (NYS Patrol) does it for me all the time.

Does it find previous owners of cars too or just current ones?

The DMV in Canada supplies all previous and current owners of a VIN. I'm sure the States do too.

I wonder what the odds would be that if he finds it. It ended up getting cloned into an SS?

One thing for sure, if he does find it, he won't get it back for what he sold it for!
I second the motion.....keep us posted!!

a little advice from a guy thats been married longer than 25 years. DONT! think that the car is what she wants for her anniversery. that gift will be for you. i suggest a large i mean very large diamond for her. if you get the car ,if not you could get by with a smaller diamond.

Hahaha, thats the truth. My Father got my Mother a 3stone anniversary band w/ a 3Ct diamond in the middle and 1Ct diamonds on each side for their 25th. A few weeks later he brought home a 70 Chevelle. It was all part of a well executed plan :-) because she didnt say a word about the Chevelle showing up in the garage.

You got that right !!! I had to pay almost 4 times what I paid for my 66 SS first time around, it can happen, a friend heard about it for sale and contacted me although complete and still numbers matching needed a complete frame off ........... dated in it ...... _ _ _ in it , got engaged in it .......sold it after the wedding :( Almost ready to take the same wife to A&W in it again :)

Mike

Do send that letter to the DMV asking them to forward it to the current owner! A friend of mine owned a 71 and was thinking about selling it when he got a letter from the DMV. The envelope had a letter in it from the original owners son asking if he would be interested in selling the car. This friend of mine called the guy and he said that when he explained who he was and that he was interested in selling it and the guy had a hard time keeping himself composed. They struck up a deal and the guy said he would drive out in a month and pick it up (lived out of state). Three days later he called back and said he was on his way. I hope this gives you hope. Good luck!

This varies greatly by state. In most, you can't just give a VIN and get even the current owner -- much less a list of the previous owners.

In Michigan, for example, you can only get the list if you are the current owner and even then you have to give a reason why you need the previous owners (for example, a common "excuse" is that you need to check to make sure some recall work was done).

Basically, if you just wanted to track down previous owners, you'd have to own it now -- plus you'd likely have to lie a bit. :D Or, if you didn't own it now, you'd like have to lie more than a bit. ;)
