Hi everybody! I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but my wife and I dated in a white 1970 Malibu Convertible, red interior, bench seat, automatic, 350, air PS,PB. THIS CAR IS IN TEXAS (I think!). VIN is 136670B186651, I sold it 20 years ago in Alabama. Our 20th anniversary is coming up, and I would like fo find the car again. Please contact mike@waycoolsw.com if you know the car. Not concerned about present condition.
Thanks for any help!

Mike,
Welcome to Team Chevelle. I searched the registry database on this site (available for viewing by members only) and came up empty :( You might want to try posting this in either the 'Bench Racing' or 'Chevelle Tech 2005' forums, as it will get a lot more views than here in the 'Convertibles' forum.
Seems to me like Texas is one of the few states left where that type of information may still be available from the DMV. You might want to check with them. It's like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack, but you'll never know unless you try. Good luck :)

Bill:
Thanks for checking in your registry database. Texas DMV confirmed the car is registered in the state, and has vanity plates. They will not, however, provide the owner's contact information to a private citizen. I am going to try sending a letter to Texas DMV to see if they will forward it to the owner, but I am not hopeful there. We'll keep on trying- I have 18 months to find it!
Thanks,
Mike

Check with the Chevelle clubs in Texas. The owner may be a member. You can find them at http://www.chevelles.net

Thanks, Jim. I sent an email to the ArkLaTex club, so we'll see.

Do send that letter to the DMV asking them to forward it to the current owner! A friend of mine owned a 71 and was thinking about selling it when he got a letter from the DMV. The envelope had a letter in it from the original owners son asking if he would be interested in selling the car. This friend of mine called the guy and he said that when he explained who he was and that he was interested in selling it and the guy had a hard time keeping himself composed. They struck up a deal and the guy said he would drive out in a month and pick it up (lived out of state). Three days later he called back and said he was on his way. I hope this gives you hope. Good luck!
