Hi Everyone,

Anyone have any suggestions for pulley setups when putting a Big Block into a 65 Chevelle. I was thinking about possibly using serpentines. Any suggestions on systems you currently have, and know will fit? I currently have a long water pump but since its a tight fit with the electric fans would like to go with a short one. I have a mixture of stock pulleys/brackets and Taiwan chrome right now. The car has power steering but no AC.

Thanks,
Mike

I have Zoops v-belt setup. I have a 66 with ac, ps,etc. It uses the GM Type II ps pump. In my SB wagon also a 66 I have March Serpentine with the type II pump and like it better. I know March has them for BB as well. If I had to do it again I might go with the serpentine on the BB. They type II in my BB car sucks but on the SB it works well. Same pump.

What electric fans are you using? What radiator?

I used a long style pump on my 454 in my 65 with p/s pump , pulleys and brackets for a 70 Chevelle 454. I ordered some from GM dealer and most from Ground Up.

I am running two Perma-Cool electric fans. One of them is the aluminum model which looks like a flex fan and used as a puller. The other is a pusher in front of the radiator. They seem to work pretty well. The radiator is the larges one US radiator made at the time for the car. I believe it is a four core. There is maybe a quater inch clearance between the water pump pulley and the fan...so I might try a short pump if I find a setup that works. Are there any differences between the performance of a long vs. short water pump?

Thanks.

I use the March V-belt setup with the March alternator bracket and a stock P/S bracket/pulley and pump... I had thought of the March "Serp" setup (not a true serpentine, but using the wide belt), but I think it "required" the special Type II P/S pump/bracket, and that put the price well over my budget...

Never have had a problem, no belts thrown...

BB with Short WP... And the March Pulleys are the "hi-Flow" pulleys...

Use the March alt bracket and stock PS pump and brackets for a SWP BBC. Don't try to use other PS brackets because the will hit the PS housing trust me! I still had to do a little fab work on the PS bracket to get everything to play nice. This input is for SWP
