My fiance bought a 65 Malibu SS. The last owner did some curious things to it .. we are just trying to put it back together so she can drive it while fixing the cosmetics.

Parts list so far .. Both bumpers, bumper brackets, exhaust (mufflers exit under front seats, no pipes), shocks, grill and headlight bezels, seatbelts, and radiator mount(?).

My biggest concern right now is the radiator. It is currently zip-tied (!) to the frame. There are no brackets on the radiator or the frame to bolt it on. I dont have any reference to what this should look like. But Im guessing the radiator is either out of of another car or Im missing some brackets. Pics below.

Also, if anyone has some decent bumpers we are looking to buy asap.

Where is Rich-L79 when you need him? Rich has one of the nicest 65 SS's you'd ever want to see and he knows these cars inside out.

If you could get a clear pic of how the radiator bolts to the frame that would help alot smile.gif

I'm not sure if this one is even correct. It has "wrecking yard marker" on the top, so it has been replaced recently.

Looks like am Impala grille.
The radiator should have brackets built in that mounts to a shroud. It looks like the wrong radiator and the shroud is missing.
The trunk horizontal moulding looks like side trim off a '65 Malibu.
Looks in pretty good shape overall. Wish mine was that far along.
Good luck.

I'll get ya some pics in the am. also i agree with the above info. looks like an impala grill and if i remember correctly, my radiator does have tabs on the sides that bolt into where the zip ties are on yours.

Definitely looks like the wrong radiator. You are missing a frame that bolts on first then the radiator bolts to this frame. See photos of my 65SS.

Also that grill is out of 65 impala and chopped up pretty good to make it fit. Heres a grill shot of my 65. I'll have this car at CB05 in the survivor class (have the original rims and hubcaps in the shop).

here's a couple pics of my rad/grille.

please excuse the rust because i have just only begun this project. In fact my tko 600 is arriving from UPS today!! but as far as i can tell, it should be the origional rad and shroud. I have owned the car for about 20 years and it was fairly origional when i got it. I changed engine and trans, but kept the rest of it as it was when i bought it.

oh, i didn't mention, this was a automatic trans/aircon car if that makes a difference to the radiator installed. i dunno really.

I would invest in a factory assembly manual - It will be invaluable to finding out what is missing....

Where to START ?
You have a B..B so you have NO rad spacer. BUT do have the WRONG rad.. the fatory is a vertial flow top bottom tanl 29" wide with side rad mounted flanges. Sloted to fit the 4 mouinting weld nuts in the rad support.
Ifthe RAd keeps the engine Cool. and there are some mounting points inthe side frame.. make up some L brackets to fit...

yuo have a Impala grill cut to fit.. novel idia..

The vice grip on the battary has to go !

got a set of bumpers 65 but you on the other end of the country so shipping would KILL you...

You have some Home made trunk Trim top /bottom orgin ???

Great foundation.. buy rough in some areas..
