: Parting '92 Astro - What to keep?

Parting out the family van. Keeping Transmission (700r4) and anything off the V6 that will bolt to my V8. Considering spindles if they'll work for a tall spindle swap (11.5" rotors, but 5" bolt pattern), just read 540CutlaSS' post and am now thinking about keeping the hydro assist brake system.

Anything else I should keep? Anything I shouldn't keep?

Serpentine belt setup might be worth keeping. Make sure you grab all the accessories with it. Rims and tires. Battery good? Starter. If your grabbing the transmission, grab the driveshaft incase you should ever need the front yoke, but if its all wheel drive its a different style of yoke and wouldnt be usefull. Thats all I can think of for now.

Forgot to mention that I was keeping the serpentine belt setup. Problem is, it's an A/C model, so I'll either have to rig a pulley up or add a/c to whatever car I put it in (sounds good in theory, but I'm not sure I want to undertake that). The van is RWD, and I am keeping the driveshaft. I'm keeping the wheels and tires. They're 5x5 bolt pattern, but the vehicle taking the Astro's place is a Silverado extended cab, so at least I'll have spares.

You can just add a non A/C pulley in the system so you wouldnt have to rig up A/C if the time comes to reuse the serpentine drive.

What year Silverado? Some of the new ones have 6 lugs even the 2wd ones.

ChrisR, I didn't know that I could do that. I thought the serpentine system was completely different for non-a/c. If I can just buy a pulley to put there, that would be great. I know, I could keep the a/c compressor there with no wires attached and it would freewheel, but I'd rather have something more permanent.

LeoP, it's an '89 silverado, 5-lug wheels. Haven't measured the circle yet, but I'm pretty sure it's 5x5.

I thought the Astro vans were 5 on 4 3/4 like the S-10's . I could be wrong , I haven't touched one in ages .

Nope, 5x5 (at least mine is), or my rolling chassis would be on better rims!

Maybe some astros are 5x4.75, I did see a mid-70s 4 door malibu with the astro "spiderweb" wheels. I've also seen these on S-10s. The thing is, I've seen them on full size pickups, too. I've also seen the stamped "wagon wheel" rims like mine has on full size trucks.

First, and I would have to look at one more closely again, but on non A/C trucks and vans, the belt is routed different and many times another idler pulley is used.

Also, as for the wheels. If the Silverado you have is 2WD, then it will have 5 lug pattern. 4X4 Models get the 6 lug pattern. But I believe both are 16 inch wheels.

Yup, it's a 2wd Silverado. Had to actually search to find exactly what I wanted. 2wd, ext. cab, 350, 700r4, short bed. even has a class III reciever. I wish it weren't bright red, but I'm getting used to it.

I have no idea what wheels it came with originally. It's got 15" aftermarket wheels now.
