My 69 is completely stripped down and ready for the paint shop...except for one piece of trim. The stainless piece that goes around the rear deck along the convertible top, it may be called the well molding.
How do I get this piece off without damaging it?? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif

"pinch weld molding" I think

I's been so long, I can't remember but I know it was pretty easy to do, I think there were some nuts underneath

Sometimes easy, sometimes a pain depending on the condition of the car and number of screws. You first have to have the top assembly removed and out of the car, or at the very least unbolted and laying down in the well. There are small screws around the perimter of the trim that go up into the body. Sometimes they are so bad that a screwdriver wont bite into them depending on the car condition. If they are stuck I first whack the heads sideways to try and loosen them enough to back out, but sometimes I have to drill the heads off and then clean out the rest of the screw.

I'm laying in the trunk and do't see and screws or clips. I removed the back seat and am looking around the edge of the top well, no screws or clips visible.
The top is only 3 years old , I would really hate to start removing that also, What exactly has to come off so I can at least see the screw clips that hold this piece(s) on?

Gap, You won't be able to see them from the trunk due to the well liner. Get yourself a small mirror, with the top down look up under the trim and you should see them. I don't recall exactly how many of them there are maybe 8-10?
The toughest ones are the two on the ends where the trim meets the rear window openings. Those two screws are installed horizontally, where the rest are vertical. A small 90 degree screwdriver is about the only thing that fits in under the well trim.
Good Luck!

Well you can always mask off the trim and leave it on. I actually did that when I painted my 70 just because thosse screws are a real PITA and I didnt want to take the top off the car.

I GOT IT. By putting the top down, with the aide of an inspection mirror, I was able to unbolt the 8 screws with a 1/4 drive 9/32 socket.
We will be loading her on the trailer and heading to the body shop tonight........
