Hello All,
I need some advice on my son's '69 Chevelle.
The car currently has a 396 in it, we lost a cam lobe or two and we
are currently building a 454 for the car. I would like to use the 396
heads on the 454, due to financial constraints. They are 3931063's
which I believe to be approximately 101cc's closed chamber heads.
My question is what piston should I run to keep me in the pump gas
range.
Thanks for your time,

Don

I run #215's (same as 063's) on my 454
Pistons have a .100 dome
Depending on deck height, head gasket thickness, etc. compression with a .100 dome and a 101 cc chamber head will be anywhere from 9.8 to 10.5 to 1 compression

If you aren't trying to make HP at 7000 RPM there aren't any better factory heads.

Chris / Mike,

Thanks for providing me with intelligent feedback. Here I was thinking the
063's were a compromise. It sounds like they will work great for my application. The Team Chevelle Tech forum has provided me with consistently sound advice.
