This is the inside quarter along side the rear seat and at the back of the sill. As you can see the steel is all rotted. I don't know of anyone that makes repair panels for these area. Any Ideas from the experts on how to fix? Pics (http://community.webshots.com/album/241170293fIXyzM)

Chunks of parts cars is the best bet.

You may have to sand blast it to find metal that isn't rotted out before I'd cut up a donor car.

I too would find a section out of a donor car like I did to fix an inner support on my roof:

I would also look at some of the other GM makes (Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs) of that era and they may be the same.

Thanks for the replies.
I was afraid thats what I would here...unfortunately, I have been looking for a donor car for the last year and am unable to find one in my area that the owner will part with.

Does anyone here have a donor that they would be willing to cut this section out of and sell...just let me know the $$...I'm sure we can work something out. Thanks

This section should be the same in all A bodies from 68-72. JOHN

Look out west to find the doner car for that part, there are a lot of a body junk yards that will cut that part out for you. Make sure you have a good spot weld cutter and mig welder, it looks from your pics you have a floor pan, inner and outer quarter, and whole quarter panel to replace. I just did this on my 71. Not easy, but can be done with the right tools. The doner part you need can come from any a-body 68-72, should not be hard to find.

The inner structure sure looks rough, how is the rest of the car?

Thanks for the replies...
I know where there are a couple of 69 GTO's that the owner was using for donor cars on his GTO rebuild, If he still has them i will have to see if I can talk him out of one...or at least the inner quarter.

Baddbob...This car needs alot more work than I had originally thought! It was an Ebay find that was about a 6 hr drive away. It was listed as a solid car...matching numbers, great for a restoration, with the original 327 in running condition. After spending $500 to rent a truck, trailer and gas to get it, I was very disapointed to see that it needed more work than I was led to believe. Well not wanting to come home empty handed,(I figured I could part the car out and make my money back if need be) I paid the owner his $1000 for the car and he loaded the car on the trailer with a frontend loader (incidentaly...this is the loader he used in his "junk yard"....did I mention that when I got there to get the car, it was in the middle of his salvage yard axle deep in the dirt) I didn't truely know the extent of the work that it was needing untill I got home and started to disassemble it. Just about every body panel needs to be replaced.. 1 factory 1/4, new trunk floor, inner/outer housings, filler panel, rockers, partial floor, both fenders, header, radiator support, inner fenders, misc. patch panels.....the cowl and frame are solid though! graemlins/clonk.gif
Anyways, I am probably in over my head and it will be a long, expensive road but I am to stuborn to throw in the towel graemlins/sad.gif

Oh...forgot the best part...Matching numbers??? Ha-Ha-Ha...the "original 327" turned out to be an original 305 out of a 76 camaro graemlins/clonk.gif

It looks like soon you are going to need a new hood also, if you dont take it off of the ground. I saw it under the car.

Freddy...Too Late....It already needs a new hood. Someone took it upon themselves to put an axe blade through it several times. I was thinking a Harwood 4" Cowl.

Holy rust-bucket batman! At risk of stepping on toes I would recommend parting that one and looking for a better start! That car is going to have some serious structural problems. If you are determined to repair this one you better have a thick wallet!

Bail now and consider your losses a learning experience.

Just my $.02.

She looks pretty rough. I would think long and hard about parting this car out and finding a better project to start with. You may be able to break even or even profit some by parting it. You'd be miles ahead if you had a solid tub to work with. If you do continue with this project my best advise is to break the job down into segments rather than trying to work on the whole project at one time. Take one area at a time and make the repairs then move on to the next.
