I have a friend with a 50 Merc that's painted black with Centari Acrylic enamel. He wants me to spot in a small area. I'm not familiar with Dupon'ts stuff. How should I go about it, material wise?

"Spotting" black ary enamel SS? Good luck, you are asking for the world.
First off, remember that it may not be "black" at all. There is no such thing as "Black" paint since the carbon was removed back in the seventies. So, what looks like "black" is actually exstreemly dark red, brown or blue. Depending on the brand of paint, or formula mixed.

If you are using the same paint it was shot with years ago, this is all a moot point, I just wanted to make you aware.
I would go to the DuPont jobber and see what blending solvents they may recommend if you don't get any good advice from someone on the forum who knows the product well, I don't.

But basically, all the same procedures as blending any other paint or color apply.

Thanks Martin. This guy is an OLD SCHOOL Hot rodder that thinks a 1/2 decent painter can cheaply solve his problem. I've already strongly suggested painting the whole door, but........70 year old guys can be stuborn. I feel like I'm between a rock & a hard place. He's a friend of mine, but I've been taught to respect my elders! URRGGHHH graemlins/clonk.gif

Jimmy, listen to MartinSr. Spotting any AE single stage as if it were lacquer is doomed to failure. If the guy is a good friend, then he needs to know the unvarnished truth. If I were you, I'd paint the whole panel and not do the job at all. Sometimes you gotta call a spade, a spade. This may be one of them.

I've tried my share of spotting AE single stage with at least three different brands of paint. None of them were successful. I've said before and I'll say again, I use mostly Dupont products, but I don't like Centari and I didn't like it 20 years ago the first time I used it.

Tell the old coot it won't work!!
