Just got my 427 back from rebuild and mounted it on the engine stand when I noticed I forgot the pilot bushing.I have a Moroso roller bearing type bushing for it. What is the best way to install it? Should I use a standard bronze bushing? Thanks

I think you're better off with the regular old bronze bushing,,,IMHO

Ok cool! How should I install? I thought these were pressed in. I should have had the engine builder install it but just forgot about it.

Be forewarned that some of the newer supposed stock ones are in fact slightly over-sized and may need to be chucked up and sanded down ever so slightly or you will beat h-ll outta it installing it!!

I had mine installed at the shop, but being in your shoes, and never having done this, I would brace the crank with hardwood against the back of the block/ pan, and drive that sucker in using a brass drift or, ahem, a large deep well socket AFTER I had given it a quick o.d. check with my calipers vs the i.d. of the hole. Don;t forget the grease. And of course use the OLD FASHIONED one as Bob accurately points out. Reliable and no needle bearings to fail.

FYI, I put my bushing in the freezer overnight to make driving it in a little easier.

Cool! I'll give it a try. I'm glad I don't need some sort of press. Thanks

Please check so that the bearing fits the inputshaft BEFORE you go ramming it in to the crank.
