I'm a newbie so don't laugh. I just took the door jam cover off to get thread loosener on the door strike and I found some pathces on the inside of the rear fender. I thought they were metal but they aren't it looks like they are glued on or something. Are these pathes that they put on for bondo work?

I took the other cover (passenger side) off and it had some of the same. But there were also a bunch of rivets or similar under neath them. What the heck am I looking at? The outside of the panels look fairly good. On the passenger side I do see some cracking in the paint.

I would say it was a rust repair in those areas. Proper repair would have included cutting the rust out completely and using patch panels migged in or completely replacing the panel. When I replaced the qtr panels on my 71 I found pretty much the same kind of repair, Me and my freinds have a joke going on, "That bubba got ahold of my car!!!) And of course no offence to anyone that may just have that first name or nick name!!!!

Guess what, it wasn't a repair after all. I took off the back armrest and pad and someone had mounted speakers in the side. The used sound deading insulation on the inside of the rear panel. I can verify this because of the writing on the insulation.

My guess would be sound deading insulation. J/K

Back in the day (you know the day) pepole would use beer cans and card board for backing and bondo over that.
