Im removing all the paint off my 72 and i was wonding if i need to use some product such as naval jelly on the clean metal to prevent rust before using the body filler, or if i should just mud the pannel and go to shaping. On the areas i need no filler can i just shoot primer (15200 cross fire acrylic primer-surfacer Martin-Senior)
on the bare metal, or do i need to use the naval jelly first? i want this paint job to last a few years as i dont plan on selling this car.

That 15200 is lacquer primer, it is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to rust prevention. DO NOT use any naval jelly or any other similar product under plastic filler.
You really need to clean that metal well, and etch prime and epoxy prime it. Or even if you just epoxy prime it, you will be MILES, I mean MILES ahead of that lacquer primer.
If you sand the metal well and immediately epoxy prime, you can sand that epoxy and apply plastic filler right over it.

So what would be your recomendation on a cheap epoxy primer? This is realy a budget paint job.
