I have a 69 Malibu, it's got a small cut in the vinyl top about an inch long.

How can this be repaired?

What should I use?

If it is not too bad it can be repaired, but it is not something "I" would try myself. There are professionals who do vinyl repair such as dashpads, consoles, etc. and they should be able to fix you up.

There are kits out there you can get I suppose and do it yourself if you are so inclined.

Good luck.

If you are inclined to try the repair yourself, here`s how you do it. You obviously need a vinyl repair compound. American Sureseal makes a nice product. So does Duramix.
Rub a little motor oil on a 3 inch square area well away from the repair area that approximates the same contour as the area your cut is in. Mix yourself a small blob of body filler, and drop it on the oiled area. Make sure the blob covers the approximate size of the cut, and stick a popsicle stick into the filler and let it harden. Mix the repair compound and prep the area as per the manufacturers instructions. Spread the appropriate amount into and onto the immediate area around the cut.
Take your hardened blob of filler. The bottom should show the imprint of the grain of your top. Leave the residue of oil on the filler and press the blob onto the repaired area. Leave it sit until it`s cured. the oil should allow you to release your imprint tool and there you have it. Make sure you really clean the repair thoroughly with reducer or prep-sol after it`s cured so all oil residue is gone before you re-dye the area.
