: Stretching/modifying front wheel opening?

Hey everyone,

I am having wheel rubbing "issues" with the '65 Lemans. Specifically, the rear lower lip of the front wheel opening when the wheels are turned. I have since gotten about 1/16" of clearance using a dead blow hammer but that's about all I can do without really screwing it up. The clearance completely disappears if the wheels move up from static ride height, i.e. the inside wheel rubs badly when the car is cornering hard. This is all very bad and is killing my $$$ tires. Has anyone here tried altering the contour of the wheel opening, or stretching the wheel opening, to get more clearance for big wheels/tires? I'm thinking something along the lines of this: http://www.bankspower.com/camaro-FrontFenders.cfm but hopefully less involved. Thanks for any help or advice!

I think this is common. I saw a whole article in Car Craft about a year ago when they did a 67/68 Impala. Anyway, the used a saws-all to pie cut the fender edge, then dolly hamemered it flat, then rebent the lip so that it rounded out more giving the 17" tire more room.

You couldn't tell it was done after that. A couple zips with the mig to fix the slice, and it was done.

Probably not as easy as it looked, but doable. tongue.gif

Those Car Craft guys are idiots. redface.gif

Yeah, it looks like a lot of work, but I think it will be worth the effort. What's good suspension without good tires?
