What's the best method to cut this stuff seeing it's so hard? It will be braided SS over 3/8 rubber fuel line. I tired cutting it before and made a mess of the braid. It there a special cutting tool?

d,
Is this "real" braided line like Aeroquip, or just the SS covering over regular fuel line ? If its jsut the covering, a good pair of tin snips should easily cut it cleanly. With the real line, I also tape and use a cutoff wheel.

I wrapped the hose in tape and cut in the middle of the tape width with a hacksaw. A hacksaw with two blades (opposing each other). This is what Russell recommends in their catalog. Fine blade teeth are preferred.

I wrap it in masking tape and use a cut-off wheel.

I wrap in masking tape about 4 times aroud and use a cut-off wheel as well.

I tried the hacksaw, the cutters, the cut off saw, etc., cut-off is the best.

when you get almost through with a cutoff wheel, sometimes the last remaining braids push away and you end up with some that are too long.

using a sacrificial wood chisel, line it up to cut the odd length braids square on the flat part of a vise or steel bench and whack it with a hammer to get a clean cut.

-10 line is the most fun...

Best thing I have found so far is a Electrical cable cutter available at Home Depot.
No tape or trimming required or bandaids for that matter.
I paid about 55 bucks.
I cut alot of line so it was worth it for me.

I wrap it in duct tape, and use bolt cutters.

Hose clamp cinched down tight, then use a cut off wheel and trim tight right up against the hose clamp.

A couple of wraps of duct tape and then hitting it with a sharp chisel works very well.

I use these, Klein cable cutters. Makes a very clean cut with the braid turned inward on the ends. Less debris than a cut-off wheel or hacksaw, you can cut the hose in place with little fuss. Just wrap the hose with some tape and make a rapid cut. Works well up to #10 line.

Great information!!!!!!!....many thanks guys. I do like the cutoff wheel technique with the hose clamp. I also tried hack saws, tin snips, chisels, etc... and made an absolute mess...though the guys that are successful probably have a good technique that works just fine.

Also, the Klein pliers I think are available at good old Home Depot or Sears. I'll try the cut off wheel with my Dremel first with a test piece I still have lying around....if not, on to the Klein's....thanks again.
