I was just wondering how critical it was to match the cfm ratings of a HVLP sray gun.
I plan on purchasing a gun soon, I have been looking around and noticed guns vary from 10 - 15 cfm of air consumption. My compressor has ratings of 11.2cfm @ 135 psi and 13.1 @ 90 psi, at least thats what the tag on the side says. I am not shure what the cfm is at 30-45 psi. I wanted to know if I purchased a gun that consumes 12 cfm @ 35 psi how critical it is to match that requirment. Can I be 1 or 1.5 cfm off, or will the gun not function properley? Info on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Your compresser is not going to cut it. "HV" in HVLP is High Volume and they mean it. I suggest that you find yourself a SHarpe Platinum with a 1.3 tip. They only require 7.5 CFM and are VERY nice guns. The bad part is they go for about $425.00 new. But if you go to sharpe.com they usually have refurbished ones for much less. Or check out EBay, I have seen many on there.

Although with your compressor listings

if you can push 13 cfms at 90 PSI I don't see why you couldn't use a gun that consumes 12 cfm at 35 PSI your already over that mark at 90 PSI.. You should be fine with the gun you are looking at.
