Have 454 rotaing assembly - looking at a 427 block.

Will the crank work if the bore matches up?

No - let me get the block instead!!

Unless I have been misinformed, 427/454 blocks are identical so the crank should be fine. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as I am looking for a 454 block for my 427 crank!

when putting a 454 crank in a 427 block you may have to clearance the bottom of the cylinders to clear the rods and make sure its not a truck block that is a tall deck.

454 crank in a 427 = 454 :)

As was said, early 427/396 blocks might require a little clearancing. No big shakes.

Hi guys, don't mean to hijack the thread but had a question. So a 454 block and a 396 crank makes a 427, which rods do you use? are they the same? and if they are the pistons will be the same as 454's? Thanks,
Nat

All the rods are the same for 396,402,427,454,366 tall deck, and 427 tall deck. The pistons are different due to bore size. The only 2 big block engines that use the same pistons are 427 and 454s due to them sharing the same block.

454 bore is 4.250.
396 bore is 4.094.
396, 402 and 427 crank stroke is 3.760
454 crank stroke is 4.00

Yenko, the pin heights are different for the 427 and 454. Use a 454 piston with a 454 crank, 427 piston with a 396/427 crank.

There's regular 3/8" bolt rods, 3/8" truck or "thumb" rods that are a schosh stronger, then the larger bolt 7/16" rods, all the same length..

AND finally GM did make a handful of longer CanAM rods that are rare as hens-teeth!! I have an old part number for them somewhere in my mag and book collection!!

PS., and fwiw, those "thumb" rods work darn good in our street two-bolt main motors, imho...

If you put the 454 crank in a 427 block you have to do as others have said and ensure the block has been clearanced for the stroke of the 454. If you put a 396 / 402 crank in a 454 block you have a 427 but you have to get the thing balanced because the pistons are bigger and heavier and the counter balances on the crank are not the right size to compensate. The machine shop here wanted a arm and a leg to balance the assembly so I found a crank on ebay to bypass the hassle.
