I thought I would show you guys the new 3M mixing cup system. We are using this at work and it really saves a lot of time and solvent. The cup on your gravity feed gun is replaced by an adapter. The adapter accepts a plastic mixing cup lid. The cup has a very thin plastic liner. You pour your product in the liner using the lines on the cup for reference. You then turn the gun up side down and screw on the cup with the liner inside. After painting you turn the gun up side down and unscrew the cup, tossing the liner in the garbage. The liners cost about 50 cents, for the home hobbyist it would save you a lot of time and mess.

One of the neat things is you turn the gun upside down and bleed out the air in the liner. This allows you to paint upside down!

If you are using a convention gun there are liners for your cup too. I am not sure if 3M makes them but I know there are others.

MartinSR,
That way of mixing the paint looks like it might not be the best possible way of getting the different ingredients mixed thoroughly.

Isn't there something else available to mix paints well for situations where you are going to say mix a pearl in with a base coat?

Sears sells a big kettle for $99 that looks like a pressure cooker ...but they don't say if it mixes paint or what it does exactly.

My opinions are usually worth what they cost you. But once in a while I know what I am talking about. Humor, fun, a few new friends, and good ole knowledge of these classics are why I am here. Your mileage may vary. ACES # 04981

I use the zip lock bags in my devilbiss omx gun and they are great! save alot of time and mess
just put it in the cup and fill and zip shut.
No spillage and pull it out and throw it away when finished.

The assembly can be placed in a paint shaker, so it's all good. If you don't have a paint shaker, you can still stir it or shake the heck out of it with your hand.

I dumped $104 on the system today. $75 for 50 of the cups w/lids & filters (16000), and $22 for the holder (16001). Got "training", measuring sheets and gun adapter for free.

I believe it will make me so that I'll be happier to use my gun more often. Won't be scared of all the cleanup involved.

I also got these mixing lids (http://www.dedoes.com/products/lids/elite/elite.html) to make stirring and pouring from the original paint containers easier & cleaner. They are only $12 - $14 each.
