The 68 armrest backing plates are attached with push-on retaining clips that dig into the plastic bosses that stick through the door. I have not be able to remove these clips and was wondering if someone knows a trick to getting them off without breaking the plastic. Thanks

Those clips are very difficult to remove. I cut the clips off with wire cutters, carefully as to not to break the plastic. Then after they were rechromed, I found a set of clips and re-installed them.

Aaaarggghh. Where will I find new clips? I'm gonna go get the rotary tool and try and grind off a tooth of one of those things. I guess some people just leave them off. Thanks Bill.

Pete...
I found a set of arm rest chrome bases that were junk. The car was totaled. I pulled the clips off the bases by wrecking the plastic. But all I wanted were the clips for my re-chromed bases.

You can get away with having just the "front" clip installed. The arm rest base will hold the back fairly tight, but the front may stick out some, if you don't have the front clip in place.
