Hello,

I have a chevy 350 4 bolt main and am not sure what it came out of, im pretty sure it was a truck, but would like to find the year, and what truck, so i know the hp rating. I have looked through all the databases i could find, the suffix code data base that nastyz28.com uses is pretty much what everyone else uses. The casting number is 3970010, my research shows that that is a 350 block used for cars, trucks and vettes from 69-79. That casting number was used in the highest sbc hp rating that i could find, so im happy bout that. The heads number is 3932454, which shows a 69-79 truck 350. The numbers on the front tab passenger side is (the small numbers) C4F424809. (The big numbers) VO328TMM. Those two numbers are in a straight line with the small numbers on the left, and about an inch inbetween the big and little numbers. Can anyone help please.

thanks

Chuck

I have a couple of books that decode the letters to year(s) vehicle(s), motor size and Hp and sometimes tranny type and codes like L-48 and such.

My newest one is by Pierre Lafontaine, "Chevrolet Small-Block V-8 ID Guide".

I picked it up b/c it has a VERY good read on the really old, (like '55 to '57), heads and how the 305HO, -601 type head fits in here!!
