I have read all the posts I can about door panels and I am unfortunetly still a little unsure about a couple of things. I just purchased a new set of front and rear door panels from NPD for my 66. I too noticed that not all the holes for the clips in the back panel are visable so now I know how to find them.
The reason for such simple questions is that the car had custom stupid panels on it and were not installed correctly so I have no template or visiual aids on correct installation.

Question?
1) I have confirmed now that the bottom of the door panel is held on with four screws and how to locate them on the panel but what kind of screws does a fella need, I think they have washer type heads on them correct? Can I get them from a place like NAPA?

2)What do you use for weather proofing behind the panel?

3) Rear panels, any suggestions on installing these? Are they the same as the front held on with screws also or are these glued or something???customs were glued!!

4) Not door panel related, but Carpet, the Carpet is not very old, about 10yrs or so great condition but it has faded from sun in a few areas. Can you buy a die or something that would re-color the area or would the hole carpet need to be done in order for the color to match.

Any help or suggestions would be great. I love this web site, I don't post a lot of questions here because if you read enough you can find your answer pretty quick.
Thanks

1. The screws are oval head phillips with a little washer built in.
2. You need a water barrier between the cardboard door panel and the window area to keep water from warping your panels. They sell "watersheds" that are basicaly wax paper or you can make your own from heavy duty plastic.
3. Rears are held by the chrome strip on the top, the window handle and rear armrest in the middle, and the front edge is glued around the door jamb flange and finished with the push on "U" shaped trim.
4. I've heard of carpet dying but have never tried it. I'm sure you would have to dye it all to get it to match.

Thanks, that explains the rear door panels. I figured as much but you know you can never be too sure.

try this http://www.ss396.com/pdf/newchevelle/60_80.pdf

door panel screws - pg 64 - right column, near the bottom...
water shields - pg 64 - right above the screws

I've used SEM products for to change the color of vinyl in my sons' 66 Nova - this included the dash, kick panels, windlace, windlace end caps, interior rear window molding. The replacement parts all come in BLACK and he has a FAWN interior. SEM states this can also be used for carpet (though I have not used it to dye carpet)...

New carpet is cheap.. not worth the eforrt to dye an old one. IMO.
