Heard about this a couple months ago on a Jeep forum. Some guys claimed to have an increase in milage while others said thiers dropped. IMO, I think its all crap. I didn't try it on any of my vehicles.

Ok... anybody have a beater we can use as a guinnea pig? :D

I doubt the claims... if it were true, you'd think this info would have spread like wildfire...

I tried it in my daily beater 93 GMC. I got .1 mpg better after adding 3oz of acetone. The difference could have been a slight variance in my routine driving but I was pretty close to the exact same driving routine as I usually follow. A tank full in the full size GMC(305 auto)will get 15.1-15.3 and last me for two weeks. The 2 week period I tried the acetone I got 15.2mpg(15.1 the previous 2 week period).

Also, I did not like dealing with "paint thinner" on and around my fresh $200 paint job!!! :D

It's dangerous stuff and can not be stored in plastic containers, also a big issue for me.

The truck suffered no problems from using it but it would have to show me a lot better result than I had to justify messing with the stuff. :waving:

I don't know if it will increase mileage, but the gas fume huffing crowd would probably benefit from adding it.

Funny thing b/c if not mistaken, it is already naturally in gasoline in trace amounts!

One thing that will work as stupid as this sounds is add about a half cup of "neat" or 100 percent pure soy bio-diesel to you engine's oil b/c it contains d-linoleic acid (OR the methyl ester of it), and is a proven lubricity improver!

It will make your motor run up to 3 percent more eff.!!
