Car is a 1998 Ford Contour, 2.5v6 with 5spd manual.

So two nights ago I was coming back from the bar happy since the same day I had fixed my IMRC, which had never worked since I owned the car. Everytime I made a right-hand turn my friend said he heard wierd noise, but I didnt hear it. Then I turned right and heard a boom, but the car kept going. I assumed I hit a pothole as turning out. Then at the next light I had to turn right again. This time the car let out a boom so loud I thought I ran over a land-mine. This time I had no power in any gear. Clutch pedal has no tension on it.

Last night we got it into the garage to diagnose it. Up to this point I thought I blew a passenger side CV. Well with the car jacked up and no tires we started it and let the clutch out. Neither axle moved. Car shifted without clutch. Speedo read properly. Had it up to 85 mph and the wheels didnt move. The clutch master cylinder is working as we felt line pressure in it. Both shifter cables are engaging the transmission. Seems to me most likely I blew the diff out of the trans. Any other ideas?

Also where is the best bet to find a transmission? I plan to replace the tranny, clutch, and starter at the same time (starter has been on the flake lately).

Sounds like it's time for a 406 SBC with a 200R4. :D

Well, you can try to find a trans at a junkyard, but you know the risk. I think I'd check into a rebuilder outfit and turn yours in as a core, assuming the car is worth fixing.

If I were you, I'd swap in a 350/350 and add a rear axle.

Sorry. Don't know anything about F0rds or contours, or anything FWD for that matter.
