Guys I dont have any clearance in the intermediate clutch. Is the recommended clearance .040-.100 inch? At this point I need to gain at least .060inch just to get to the minimum .040inch clearance. I was just wondering how to go about gaining the clearance that I need. The three frictions are borg warners and steels have alto stamped on them. Does anybody know the thickness of the factory clutches and steels? Also I have seen people remove the waved cushion plate. Is this good or bad. It seems to me that this would be harsh on the intermediate roller clutch. Thanks for any info.

I would seriously consider disassembly and a double or triple check that everything is correct.

Are you 100% sure you have the drums seated underneath things? The direct and foward drums are sometimes a challenge to wiggle around and get them to seat through all of the frictions. My guess is this is your issue. Spin and wiggle the two drums until they are fully seated. The OEM intermediate steels are .068". Make sure to use the wave plate in the intermediate pack! First goes the pressure plate, then the frictions and steels alternating, with the wave plate on top before the pump is installed.

Thanks for the tips guys. I am sure the drums are fully seated because the pressure plate locks into the case properly. I will keep working on it until I get it figured out. Thanks again.

are you sure the aluminum piston is cut for a 3 friction clutch pack?

The piston height will be near equal to the spring retainer bolted to the pump for 2nd gear.

double check the drums install. They can sit higer if a friction in the forward drum holds everything up and the steel 2nd gear pressure plate will install correctly..... been there
