i am only 17 and recieved a 1971 malibu from my girl friends dad he drove it as a daily driver untill one of the heads blew about 4 years ago,it has been sitting ever since,i have 5000$ dollars to fix it up,i am going to buy a rebuilt 350,and use teh parts from the old engine (they were stored in a basement) the body is all bood except the trunk is rotted on the left and right sides, i will probably just buy a trunk kit, and full rear quaters any idea how much a shop would charge to put all that in ? thanks

Mike put it too you this way a quarter panel costs 500 bucks and that is for a full OEM quarter from goodmark to only way to go in my book. The outer wheel wells are a 100 bucks a side and the inners are around 100. So you are now up too 700 bucks per side just for parts. The trunk kit is around 320 bucks. You have about 1800 bucks in JUST PARTS.
Now for the rate the shop will charge, I have some old repair manuals that were used by body shops back in the day. The hourly rate for replacing a quarter was 13.3 hours per side. The inner is rated at 4.5 hours and the outer is 2.5 hours. Now the hourly rate is 20.5 hours per side. You have 41 hours in just replacing the quarters, outer and inner wheel wells. My shop that I work at is 42 bucks a hour, now $42x41 hours is 1722 bucks, that is not including the trunk. 1800 bucks for parts and 1722 for labor adds up to be 3522 bucks. Now add in your trunk kit at 320 and round 10 hours to install that trunk, 420 for labor plus 320 for parts adds up to 740. Your grand total is around 4300 dollars and that is on the low side of things!
