Ok, I looked thru search and read nearly every post that had to do with valve covers. I'm looking to order a set of chrome valve covers for my '67 Chevelle SS and I keep seeing people talk about SLANT/NO SLANT.
Year One lists this on their site:
NOTE: The use of Corvette-style valve covers with the slanted area for brake booster clearance on 1967-early 1968 models followed no set pattern; determining whether or not your car was originally equipped with these covers is very difficult.
So my question is, what are the ones everyone seems to be installing? Only thing I know for sure is I need the ones that have the clips on the driver side to hold the wire that runs to the water temp sender.
Any input to clear this subject up?

Mine is a 68 396/325, drum brakes, with powerbooster. It doesn't have the slant.Think it would pertain to the HP from the factory.Like the 375 hp ones. And the style of motor mounts used.Thinking i heard in the 67 the motor mounts would break sometimes. They had somekind of recall and installed some different ones with a chain hold down.Where breaking and causing the accelerator to get jambed.Or it might be they don't know the specific car you are using like the impala might need the slant chevelle doesn't.Good luck, still learning myself.Yearone has some nice ones, don't know if they have the drippers in them.Think what you really need to find is the right ones with the vent holes in the right place to go to the air cleaner.

They do make the mention of the "corvette style slant" so guess the chevelle has enough room to clear the PB near the valve cover.
Question about drippers. I've read that some people have them and others don't. The steel ones that were on the engine (out of a caprice) don't have the drippers. Was this only on certain HP ratings?
I'm running a 325HP 396 if that helps. Power brakes/Power steering.

Don't know the full true reason. The 375 ones didn't get them because of the different heads. All the 325 ones i've seen chrome or painted have the drippers. There not really needed, just the real into correct people will compliment you for having correct ones.Hard to tell from repo's except the ones with drippers have little weld imperfection on the top where they have been tacked on,that show threw the chrome.won't be a totally smooth top can see little bumps on it.Usually can find some used ones around, alot more of the painted ones they have the wire looms but might have to move the sparkplug standoffs to be correct.then chrome them.

I don't know about the 1967s but I did research to get correct set for my 1969 and found many differnent sets of BB chrome covers. The differences were in spark plug wire holder location and the small wire holder location for water temp sensor and the shape of the driver side rear area of cover. The hi po engines may have a different set because of Holley carb vs Q-jet and high rise alum intake vs lower cast iron intake. The power brake vac line has to clear the spark plug wire holder and the windshield washer motor can also have a clearance problem if cover is not right.
You need to find pictures from original cars to try and get the correct set.
Don't go by the vendor catologs because they claim many applications for the same set of covers.
All the original covers I looked at had drippers. I think the drippers are good to have because they help oil the rocker arm balls.

Everywhere I am looking suggests that they did have drippers on them and that the 65-67 396 cars had the slant on the driver side. Anyone else want to chime in and set me correct?

Where are you READING/getting your information if I may ask?

Anywhere and everywhere. Doing the searches here. Looking at pics of engine setups of any 67 car I can find. Seems alot of people have the slant on the back corner when they have power brakes. Different part catalogs say drippers are original and others say it really doesn't matter.
I was looking at ordering the valve cover kit from Ground Up since it has all the little peices (hoses, elbows, bolts, etc, etc).
Anyone set me on the correct path before I order? So far I'm looking at XA-101S from ground up. This has the slant with drippers.

you should have the drippers and the very pronounced "crunched" area at the driver's side rear corner at bottom.
Catalogs are going to tell you whatever they feel is right based on what they have to sell you. :clonk:

This was the kind of information I was looking for. Glad to know that after all the looking and looking I did. That I was on the right path after all.
Thanks for the input.
